LAHORE: PPP Punjab Secretary-General Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has asked the PML-N government to probe allegations by former army chief Mirza Aslam Beg that Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri are pursuing a "foreign agenda" to destabilise democracy in Pakistan.

"These are serious allegations and should be probed thoroughly because his revelations are tantamount to a direct assault on the independence of the country in violation of the international laws," he said on Monday.

Kaira said irrefutable evidence must be presented in view of the sensitivity of the matter.

He said Imran Khan's use of non-parliamentary language against leaders of other political parties was deplorable.

"Mr Khan will face retribution because if you sow whirl you will end up reaping whirlwind," he added.

Kaira said the PPP was committed to democracy and the Constitution and would defend it come what may. The PPP gave a unanimous Constitution to the people and it was only the Constitution that had been safeguarding the unity of the federation after the East Pakistan debacle, he said.
