ISLAMABAD: During a 10-day fundraising campaign that ended on Sunday, students of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) collected Rs2 million for the flood-affected people.

The students collected donations in four groups, standing at busy intersections in I-8, F-10 and F-7 and at Koral Chowk.

As many as 45 students participated in the fundraising activity under the supervision of Dr Mohammad Idrees.

Talking to Dawn, Dr Idrees, assistant professor at the QAU, said Rs1.8 million were collected from traffic signals while Rs200,000 was donated by university students.

“We have achieved our target of collecting Rs2 million and in the coming days our team will go to the flood-affected areas with eatable items,” he said.

Kazim Ali, a student at the university’s economics department while collecting donations at a traffic light in I-8, said: “We received a positive response from people belonging to all walks of life but the response from girl students and alumni of QAU was overwhelming.”
