LAHORE: The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) on Thursday suspended a price control magistrate from service for his failure in ensuring sale of essential commodities and vegetables according to officially notified rates/price lists in the Township area.

The action was taken against the council officer/price control magistrate Sanaullah after a monitoring team, led by the district coordination officer, visited Madina Market, Township, and found various shopkeepers selling commodities at rates higher than the notified rates.

The officials say the team also got arrested two shopkeepers, Riffat and Nadeem, on the spot for overcharging, hoarding and violating the notified price lists and registered a case against them.

Meanwhile, the CDGL has issued a letter to all magistrates, directing them to ensure sale of commodities according to price lists besides launching a crackdown on those involved in overcharging.

“To check performance of all price control magistrates, the city administration has established a committee which will review prices on a daily basis. And no negligence will be tolerated on the part of these officials,” said a spokesman for the CDGL in a statement.

He said various magistrates also got arrested 13 vendors besides imposing Rs172,000 fine on several others in this regard.

VISIT: A group of 37 trainee officers of the District Management Group (DMG) paid a study visit to the offices of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in Johar Town.

The LDA director general and additional directors general (headquarters and housing) briefed the officers on functioning of various sections of the authority.
