KARACHI: While Karachi Zebras and Rawalpindi Rams ran out comprehensive winners by innings, Islamabad Leopards and Lahore Eagles scored narrow victories in their second-round fixtures in the PCB Inter-Region Under-19 (Three-day) Cricket Tournament on Saturday.

The Zebras trounced their Pool ‘C’ rivals Azad Jammu Kashmir Jaguars by innings and 25 runs at the latter’s home territory at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The Jaguars, who were 63-3 in their second innings, capitulated in less than 55 overs for 154. Ghulam Hussain bagged five wickets for 65 runs and Hassan Shahab 4-39.

In the same group the Rams overwhelmed Multan Tigers by innings and 64 runs at the Gymkhana Ground in Okara despite Friday’s second day being completely washed out.

The Tigers, who were forced to follow-on, were dismissed for 154 after having started the third day’s action at 9-0. Awais Iqbal was their tormentor with figures of five for 53.

The Leopards sealed a dramatic two-wicket win against Lahore Lions in their Pool ‘B’ clash at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

After the Lions had sportingly declared their second innings at 298-6 with Waqas Ali (83 odd 84 balls, four fours and two sixes), Rameez Younis (71 off 109, 12 fours and one six) and Mohammad Naeem (57 off 151, three boundaries) their main scorers, the Leopards brilliantly chased their target of 300.

They eventually reached 304-8 in just 53.4 overs with Sajawal Riaz hammering 11 boundaries and three sixes in a 109-ball knock of 112. Aamir Jamal hit a 65-ball 52 with the aid of four fours and a brace of sixes.

The Eagles, meanwhile, upstaged their hosts Peshawar Panthers by 20 runs in the Pool ‘D’ fixture at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar.

The Panthers made a real mess of a reachable 223-run chase when they were restricted to 202 all out in 66.2 overs despite a splendid unbeaten 102 (204 balls, 12 fours and one six) from Zia-ur-Rehman.

Karamat Ali was the Eagles’ star with the ball by claiming four wickets for 65 runs.

The other Pool ‘D’ tie between Sialkot Stallions and NCA Colts petered out in a draw at the National Ground in Islamabad with the former earning three points after taking a lead of 86 runs on the first innings.
