KARACHI: The inaugural Rashid Latif Cricket Academy (RLCA) Twenty20 Departmental Cricket Tournament will be played here under lights at the Korangi Stadium from Sept 28.

“Since the Pakistan Cricket Board is not holding their departmental T20, we have to decide to fill the gap,” Rashid Latif who is chief organiser said on Wednesday, adding that since most of the national team players belong to departmental teams, the event in presence of big stars will be a success.

The former Test captain said they are looking for title sponsors and negotiations in this regard were underway with different sponsors.

Handsome prize money of Rs1.5 million will be at offer with winners taking Rs1m and runners-up Rs500,000.

The former wicket-keeper further said they intend to start the event after the final of Regional T20 Cup at the National Stadium, adding that eight Grade-I and two Grade-II departments will be featuring in the week-long event.

The event is approved by the PCB, said Rashid and added that draws are being finalised with the event to be broadcast on a private television channel.

Teams taking part in the event include National Bank of Pakistan, Habib Bank Ltd, State Bank of Pakistan, Port Qasim Authority, Sui Southern Gas Company , Candyland, Omar Associates and Dollar East.
