LAHORE: It is highly inappropriate to involve army in political matters and the move reflects poorly on the politicians, PPP Punjab President Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said here on Saturday.

"The heads of politicians should hang in shame for their failure to get the country out of crisis. It reflects very poorly on the agitating politicians and the lack of this realisation is more disturbing," he said.

He appreciated the efforts of the PPP and Jamaat-i- Islami leadership to break the deadlock, saying the conflicting parties had scuttled their endeavors.

Wattoo said the reported invitation to army to play the "role of a mediator" showed immaturity of those at the helm. He said the army had been fighting country's war of survival and engaging it in the internal politics would badly divert its attention. He said the army was fighting terrorism in Fata, Quetta and Karachi and indeed in the whole country and rendering sacrifices so that the nation could live according to its aspirations.

Wattoo called upon the government, PTI and PAT leadership to find some common ground urgently and rid the nation of the "torture" that had made their lives miserable due to the uncertainty prevailing all over the country.
