KARACHI: Amid a surge in targeted attacks on police in the city, another law-enforcer was gunned down, this time near Al Asif Square in the Sohrab Goth area on Friday, officials said.

Five policemen have been killed during the past three days in Karachi, according to the officials.

Police constable Lutfullah, 45, was going to his workplace in Sohrab Goth on a motorbike when he came under attack, the area police said.

He sustained three bullet wounds and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Sohrab Goth SHO Ismail Lashari.

“It was a targeted killing,” the SHO believed. He said the victim might have been targeted by militants.

The victim had two wives and originally hailed from Dadu, the officer said.

With the latest incident, the number of policemen killed in the city this year has risen to 116, according to senior police officials. They believed most of the policemen had been targeted by militants.
