RAWALPINDI: A team of the district health department on Thursday found dengue larvae in stagnant water at Eidgah graveyard and junkyards in adjoining areas.

It also found the mosquitoes in a pond at under construction building of Taleemul Quran Seminary at Raja Bazaar. The team asked the contractor to take safety measures to avoid spread of the dengue virus.

The health department team led by executive district officer (health) Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal sealed four junkyards and asked Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) to remove stagnant water from the graveyard.

Talking to Dawn, Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal said the health department team visited Commercial Market park, Nadir Plaza, agriculture department residential colony, under construction institute of urology and many other places.

“Though the cleanliness condition at Commercial Market park and some plazas was satisfactory, we asked the administration not to allow water to stagnate there,” he said.

“We have provided larvae eating fishes to the administrator of under construction institute of urology to put them in temporary water tank being used to keep the bricks wet,” he said.

Dr. Zafar Iqbal Gondal said that he contacted Pakistan Railways to launch anti-dengue drive in railway colonies in Dhoke Ratta and Dhoke Hassu where sanitation condition is worse.
