KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau on Monday sought a report from the Sindh government about the allotment of Karachi Port Trust land, it is learnt here reliably.
According to sources, the Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) had complained to NAB that the Sindh government was allotting the KPT’s land and urged it to probe the issue.
The sources said the NAB’s Assistant Director Mohammad Amir Butt raised the issue with the chief secretary of Sindh through an Aug 25 “confidential” communication on the subject of “complaint against Sindh government about illegal allotment of plots in 350-acre KPT land along Clifton shore reserved for the KPT Tower worth Rs 350 billion.”
The letter said addressing the chief secretary: “You are requested to furnish comprehensive para wise comments on how and under which authority these plots were acquired by the government of Sindh.
“The information is required under Section 27 of the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 and may reach this bureau by Sept 5, 2014, please,” said the communication copies of which had also been sent to NAB chairman, TIP and other relevant quarters.
