LAHORE: The Punjab University’s Bachelor of Arts and Science (BA/BSc) annual examinations for 2014 results, declared on Wednesday, showed 37.69 per cent pass percentage slightly improving from last year’s 37.28pc.

The PU administration has this year declared the results and delivered CDs carrying the result gazette to media offices while the position holders will be honoured at a ceremony on Thursday (today).

According to preamble to the result notification, as many as 133,223 candidates appeared for the BA, BSc annual examinations out of whom 50,211 were declared successful.


Pass percentage is 37.69; public sector colleges lag behind


The girl students have once again outshone boys by grabbing five out of six top positions in the examination. All the three top positions in the science group (BSc) as well as two positions in the arts group (BA) have gone to girls. A boy, as an external candidate from Sheikhupura, has secured third position in the BA examination.

On a serious note, like previous year, no candidate from any public sector college in Punjab has earned the top position. The top as well as third positions in BSc have gone to girl students studying in Punjab colleges in Gujranwala and Lahore, while the second position has been clinched by a student from VIP Girls Degree College, Talagang, Chakwal.

In BA examination, two girls from Lahore and Faisalabad districts earned top two positions, while a boy from Sheikhupura district bagged third position.

Overall gender-wise pass percentage reflects that the girl candidates have outperformed boys with 43.79 pass percentage. The boys’ pass percentage stood at 25.5.

TOPPERS: Saba Khalid, daughter of Khalid Mehmood Shahid (roll number 21202), a student of Punjab College for Women, Civil Lines, Gujranwala, has clinched the overall first position as well as top among science students with 700 marks out of total 800.

Atiqa Fakhar, daughter of Raja Fakhar Abbas (roll number 128331), a student of VIP Girls Degree College, Talagang, Chakwal, secured second position with 682 marks, while Sumiya Munir, daughter of Munir Ahmad Sajid, (roll number 66378) of Punjab College of Science, 151-Ferozepur Road, Lahore, stood third with 670 marks.

In humanities group (BA), Ayesha Mairaj, daughter of Mairaj Deen, (roll number 64893), an external candidate from Lahore district, bagged first position by scoring 680 marks. Nayab Ramzan, daughter of Muhammad Ramzan, (roll number 11061), an external candidate from Faisalabad district stood second with 666 marks. While, Shahbaz Ahmad, son of Muhammad Arif, (roll number 76705), an external candidate from Sheikhupura district, obtained third position with 664 marks.

According to the break-up of regular and private candidates, the preamble to the result notification says as many as 41,901 regular candidates appeared for the examination out of whom 22,851 were declared successful showing a pass percentage of 54.54.

Similarly, as many as 91,322 private candidates appeared for the examination out of whom 27,360 got through with 29.96 pass percentage.

The result notification says that the centre superintendents, examiners and university monitoring teams had reported cases of alleged use of unfair means against 1,073 candidates.
