MUZAFFARABAD: The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) has postponed its first international conference on ‘Himalayan Biodiversity and Climate Change’ till October due to the volatile political and security situation in the country created as a result of the protests by Pakistan Awami Tehreek and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, a varsity official said on Tuesday.

The event, which was being organised by UAJK’s Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, was scheduled to take place on August 23 and 24, in Muzaffarabad, with participants from Pakistan and various other countries, said Dr Ansar Yasin, the in charge of the conference secretariat.

“In order to ensure safety of the academics, scientists and experts coming in from abroad, we have deferred the conference till October 20-21,” he said.
