Tallest flag ignored due to long march

ISLAMABAD: The joint anti-government marches by Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) that have almost created a political upheaval in the country seem to have overshadowed the hoisting of the biggest flag of Pakistan in Islamabad.

The flag, considered to be the highest one in South Asia, is fluttering at the green belt between Sector H-8 and Islamabad Highway and is visible from almost all parts of the capital city. However, the formal flag hoisting ceremony will be held soon after the current political scenario is eased.

The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was scheduled to hoist the flag on August 14.

But in the wake of the long marches, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal hoisted the huge flag.

The giant 60ft x 40ft flag was prepared by the CDA. The landmark flag in Islamabad is around 220ft high, with a 215ft high pole and a four and half feet high platform to support the structure.

Great! We need Pak flags everywhere including all buildings, bridges, car dealers, malls, etc like in USA and Turkey

This is so great to show some patriotic feelings especially if it in fact turns out to be The biggest National flag in Asia. In most other countries, such as in the US, God know why they feel so proud to show off their flags every where in their country but are so scared or ashamed to even mention that they are Americans while they are outside of their country. We Pakistani have nothing but to be proud of our flag inside or outside of our country. Our Pakistani armed forces & soldiers wearing Pakistani flags on their shoulders, go around the globe, not to occupy or slaughter innocent humans but to serve & protect them, making Pakistanis proud.

@hakan if you need these flags every where then you probably donor know their likely places after the event is over(if you love your flag which I feel you do)

While passing a corner in a street in Kuala lumpur, I saw a girl passing by touched the flag and kissed. I then realize the patriotism, a national flag can promote. Being expatriate, I would emphasize the government and Pakistanis to put national flags at as many place as they can. I really honor and feeling of pride to see yours national flag.
