KARACHI: A personnel of the Pakistan Navy, who was one of the guards at the Quaid’s mausoleum, committed suicide on the premises of the Mazar on Wednesday, police said.

They added that 24-year-old Safdar Ali Shah first killed his wife, Zeenat, in their Dalmia home in the early hours of Wednesday and then came to the Mazar for duty in the morning. Brigade SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said that he used his official G-3 rifle to shoot himself to death.

Aziz Bhatti SHO Sarfraz Ali said that the PN man killed his wife over some domestic dispute. Later, he phoned his family and informed them about the murder and his plan to commit suicide, he added.

The police said that the couple got married a few months ago through a matchmaker.

Factory worker killed

A factory worker was shot dead during a brawl with some other workers in Ittehad Town on Wednesday.

Police said Abdul Razzak, 21, was killed and two suspects, identified as Rafiq and Furqan, were arrested.

A pistol allegedly used in the murder was also seized from them.

The motive for the murder could not be ascertained immediately.

Man shot dead

A 35-year-old man was gunned down in a Malir locality on Wednesday, police said.

They added that Mohammed Iqbal was riding a motorcycle when gunmen on another motorcycle targeted him in Shamsi Society.

The victim originally hailed from Faisalabad.

The Al-Falah police suspected some personal enmity as a likely motive for the killing.

Young woman found strangled

The body of a young woman was found in the Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday, police said.

They added that the body was found in a nursery near Chamra Chowrangi.

The corpse was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors said she had been strangled.

Till late in the night, her identification could not be ascertained.

Body found

A young man died under mysterious circumstances in Khokhrarpar No 11.

Police said the body of Faisal Khan, 30, was found near Mubarak Restaurant. He came from Korangi to meet his father in Khokhrapar and died mysteriously while returning home.

He was the father of three.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities. However, the police said the victim’s family did not want to pursue the case.
