GUJRAT: A two-member committee comprising senior police officers has launched a probe into delayed registration of case against the suspect involved in chopping off the arms of a boy at Chak Bhula village.

Punjab police Inspector General Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera had ordered inquiry into the incident, involving the suspended Lalamusa DSP Muhammad Usman and Sadar police SHO Shaukat Topa on the directions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who visited the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital here on Friday to enquire after the 10-year-old victim, Tabassum Shahzad.

The committee comprising Deputy Inspector General Tariq Masood Yaseen and SSP Agha Yousaf recorded statements of the suspended police officials, the suspended medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Tahir Naveed and Medico Legal Officer (MLO) Dr Masoodul Hassan.

The two officers visited the Sadar police station and the hospital’s emergency ward, besides inspecting the crime scene to record locals’ statements.

The CM had taken notice of the delayed registration of case and expressed his annoyance at the police officials concerned as well as the hospital doctors. The victim’s father and District Police Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmed had reportedly told the CM that the doctor concerned had conducted the boy’s medical examination on July 22 but issued his report on July 24 afternoon, causing inordinate delay in case registration. The incident had occurred on July 21.

Meanwhile, the DPO posted Inspector Fazal Ahmed Surra as Sadar police station SHO following suspension of Shaukat Topa, the former in charge.

BURNT: A woman suffered burns on Sunday when her husband allegedly tried to set her ablaze at home at Nandowal in Kakrali police precincts.

Asma Bibi was burnt by her husband Wajid and his brother-in-law Shabraiz (husband of Wajid’s sister). The woman was shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed hospital.

Police have registered a case against the suspects under section 324 of the PPC on the report of woman’s brother Muhammad Sajid and arrested them.
