LAHORE: A 33-year-old man, whose bullet-riddled body was handed over to the Rangers by the Indian Border Security Force on Wednesday, turned out to be a mentally-retarded resident of Nangal village (Shakkargarh) who had inadvertently crossed the border a few days ago.

According to a Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) spokesman, as Iftikhar Khursheed crossed over the border, the Indian border security forces fired shots at him.

The Rangers personnel received the body at the Shakkargarh sector with four bullet wounds after the BSF got conducted his post-mortem.

The spokesman termed the incident a gross violation of human rights and standing agreement between the two countries that inadvertent border crossers would not be harmed.

Iftikhar was a father of three and used to work in a paper manufacturing factory in Lahore.

According to victim's family, Iftikhar, who had been under medical treatment at the Punjab Institute of Mental Health for the last two years, went missing on July 21 and was last seen moving to the border by Karol villagers.
