ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced schedule for bye-election on a Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seat (PK-68 Dera Ismail Khan), which fell vacant after MPA Javed Akbar Khan was disqualified by the Supreme Court.

A lone independent member, Akbar Khan lost his seat for possessing a fake degree.

He had defeated Makhdoom Syed Murad Kazim of the Awami National Party by a margin of around 10,000 votes in last year’s general polls.

According to the schedule announced on Wednesday, the bye-poll will be held on Sept 8 and nomination papers may be filed on Aug 4 and 5.

The papers will be scrutinised by the returning officer on Aug 7 and 8 and appeals against the acceptance or rejection may be filed till Aug 11, which will be decided by Aug 15.
