Malir Gym make semi-final

KARACHI: Promising teenager Arsalan Farzand and veteran spinner Azam Hussain came up with superb performances as Malir Gymkhana sailed into the last-four grade of RLCA Ramazan Twenty20 Cricket Tournament with a convincing 64 runs victory over Alamgir Gymkhana on Tuesday night.

Opting to bat first in the rescheduled quarter-final, Malir Gymkhana piled up 193 for the loss of eight wickets. Karachi Under-19 batsman Arsalan scored a delightful 69 off 53 balls with eight boundaries and one six. Khalid Latif also made a quick-fire 37 in 18 ball cameo studded with four sixes and one four. Another Karachi Under-19 player Wajahat Khan hit 27 off 15 balls. Tenage spinner Danish Aziz showed good temperament under pressure by grabbing three wickets for 13 runs with his left arm spin and Bilal Manzoor claimed two wickets for 34 runs.

When Alamgir Gymkhana batted, experienced left arm spinner Azam, a former Pakistan “A” bowler, bagged four wickets to become the tormentor of opposition batting which crumbled to 129 all out in the 19th over. Off-spinner Tabish Nawab (2-15) and youthful paceman Abdul Ameer (2-23) also shared four wickets between them.

Pakistan Under-19 batsman Faraz Ali made a fighting 53 off 40-ball with four boundaries and brace of sixes. Danish Aziz after fine bowling scored 20 with three boundaries.

Malir Gymkhana will now meet Pak Korangi CC in the semi-finals and winner will take on Pakistan CC in the final.
