THIS is apropos news report ‘Karachi airport manager sent to Islamabad on important assignment’ (July 5).

It appears that the newly-created aviation division is chasing shadows and is bent upon destroying whatever image of the Civil Aviation Authority is left.

Unfortunately, the CAA continues to flout the decision of Sept 25, 2013, of the Supreme Court given on constitutional petition No 33/2013 in which the appointment of the former director-general of CAA was declared null and void ab initio. No action was taken of illegal postings and appointments made by the ex-director general. As a result, the CAA is in a mess.

The recent promotions made without holding a proper meeting of the promotion committee has already been challenged in the Sindh High Court and notification of promotion/postings of the illegally promoted officers has been suspended.

There is a need to appoint a neutral board of inquiry to address the CAA issues. The existing unrest and unfair treatment meted out by a very junior officer to senior officers will result in a major catastrophe.

After the tragic death of eight people in the cargo complex, the CAA’s performance is under question as it failed even to follow the standard operating procedures.
