TIMERGARA: About 857 students of University of Malakand (UoM) were given cheques of Rs17 million collectively under the prime minister’s scholarship programme for less developed areas.

In this connection a ceremony was held at the Convocation Hall of the university on Tuesday with Vice-chancellor Dr Johar Ali in the chair. The ceremony was attended

besides others by UoM Registrar Sher Bhadar, Dean Dr Rahmat Ali and heads of all departments, faculty members and students.

The vice-chancellor appreciated the efforts of prime minister for promotion of education. He said that such initiatives would encourage deserving youth to get standard and higher education in the country.

Dr Ali said that the move would promote education in the country particularly in the backward area of Malakand division. He thanked the federal government for the awarding scholarships to the students of backward areas. He hoped that government would continue to assist the students of the poverty-stricken area.
