QUETTA: Armed militants torched a tanker in Quetta carrying goods slated for Afghanistan, police said.

Police superintendent Imran Qureshi told Dawn that two motorcycle-riding assailants opened fire at the tanker in Quetta’s Hazaar Ganji area.

He said the tanker was ablaze after the firing and goods inside it were completely burnt.

Qureshi however said there was no loss of life due to the attack as the driver and the cleaner had managed to escape unhurt.

Fire tenders were called to put out the flames.

"Thick black smoke could be seen from quite far away,” Qureshi said.

Police and personnel from the Frontier Corps reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack. However, militants in the area have been targeting Nato and US supplies for the past several years.
