LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has asked its legislators to remain ‘mentally’ prepared to quit assemblies.

The Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, told Dawn on Saturday that the party at a meeting held at the Zaman Park residence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan had discussed the option of quitting the assemblies and its legislators had agreed to hand over resignations whenever the leadership asked them to do so.

Mr Rasheed said the PTI would pressurise the government to bring electoral reforms and eventually go for mid-term elections.

“The PTI leadership will hold a meeting of its core committee next week and decide when to collect resignations from its legislators and how to use them,” he said.

Party legislators are ready to hand over resignations to leadership

PTI Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhry, however, said the party leadership had neither sought resignations nor was it the right time to do so.

However, he added, the party had told its legislators that they might be advised to submit their resignations anytime.

Mr Rasheed said the PTI was convinced to oust the PML-N government before the end of its term because it was ruling the country on the basis of what he called a stolen mandate.

He said an inspection of ballot papers had revealed shocking facts in almost every constituency that had put up a question mark on the credibility of the election process.

Citing an example of NA-118, he said Nadra had submitted a report to the election tribunal which almost corroborated the allegations mentioned in an election petition filed by the PTI candidate.
