DERA GHAZI KHAN: A man cut hair of his wife and tortured her with hot iron rods on Tuesday when she objected to his habit of squandering money in gambling in Gaddai police limits.

According to the police, Abdul Hameed, a habitual gambler, lost money in gambling. When he returned home, his wife Kaneez admonished him.

He got infuriated and inflicted burns to kaneez’s feet with hot iron rods, besides cutting her hair as a punishment.

A neighbour, alarmed by the woman’s cries called the police. The police arrested the attacker, registering a case against the suspect.

PROTEST: An elderly woman, along with her relatives and locals staged a demonstration here on Tuesday outside the office of the regional police officer, demanding arrest of his son’s killers.

Scores of people led by Zulaikha, mother of deceased Abdul Rehman, gathered in front of RPO’s office and raised slogans demanding early arrest of five people suspected of killing the youth.

They alleged that Abdul Sattar, Waseem, Shakeel, Talib and Imran killed Abdul Rehman over an enmity at Khanpur Munjwala in the limits of Kot Chhuta police station a couple of weeks ago.

The suspects had also set ablaze the body of the deceased.

Zulaikha threatened to commit self-immolation if the killers of her son were not arrested by the police within a week.

The police said one of the suspects, Imran, was behind the bars while the other nominated accused were at large.

The protest ended after the police gave an assurance to the grieving mother that the killers of her son would be arrested soon.
