Hollywood actor George Clooney wants to launch a career in politics after marrying British lawyer and fiancé Amal Alamuddin in September 2014, reported The Times of India.

The 53-year-old actor is reportedly gearing up to take part in the next US election.

The Oscar-winning producer and actor, who rallied for President Barack Obama ahead of the 2012 election and co-founded humanitarian aid organisation Not On Our Watch with several friends, including Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, six years ago, believes Amal will help boost his chances of securing an official role in the next government.

''George is thinking of how he can get more involved. Now he has Amal by his side it will give him more credibility to run for office,'' said an inside source.

The Gravity star previously insisted that while he felt very strongly about highlighting certain issues, such as the genocide in Darfur, he had no political aspirations. In February, he said: ''I like the ability to shine light and make it loud. But boy, the idea of administrating and legislating. What a nightmare.''
