PAYERNE: A sun-powered plane made a successful test flight on Monday, clearing a vital hurdle towards its goal of a round-the-world trip next year, its pilot and mission chiefs said.
‘Solar Impulse 2’ carried out a flight lasting two hours and 15 minutes, half an hour longer than scheduled, German test pilot Markus Scherdel said. “Everything worked as expected,” Scherdel told a press conference at an air base in Payerne, Switzerland. “ ... it’s a good start and I’m looking forward to flying the aeroplane the next time.”
Built from carbon fibre, the 2.3-tonne plane has four electrical motors powered by solar cells.

Good Job Mr. Scheredel. It is an initial step toward something very important. Global transport using clean green energy. Thank you for your hard work toward that goal.

Probably first people to use it will be CIA to create a solar powered drone that can just hover endlessly over targets without needing refusing, it can just hang out in the sky for days waiting for target.

It could be the turning point in the history of mankind and technological development, now the world is not literally far away when the air liners turn to solar energy planes, cars, trains, air conditioners, cell phones and so on, which will end the monopoly of the oil producing countries and will ensure the safer ecosystem.
