KALAYA: Gunmen ambushed on Thursday a group of people returning from funeral of a member of the Shia community, killing four people, including a Levies man, and injuring another.

One of the attackers was also killed when fire was returned.

Those killed in the attack were identified as Sepoy Shahnawaz Ali, Safdar Ali, Gul Ali and Muram Hussain. The injured was taken to Karaiz Civil Hospital.

Security forces shifted the attacker’s body to Kalaya for identification.

According to the political administration officials, a group of people was returning home after attending funeral prayer of a man in the Lalpura area of lower Orakzai tehsil when they were attacked from mountains controlled by Shiekhan tribe.

Political tehsildar Sher Bahadar, along with the personnel of Levies Force, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. At least, 12 suspects were detained and shifted to an undisclosed location.
