Blast near Rangers headquarters in Karachi; five injured

KARACHI: Five people were injured in an explosion in Karachi on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

Casualties were feared in the blast that took place in the city's North Nazimabad area near the Rangers headquarters.

Personnel from law enforcement agencies had surrounded the site of the blast and members of the bomb disposal squad were also dispatched to the location.

The explosion caused damage to the nearby shops.

Due to the intensity of the blast, the windows of the closely situated buildings also shattered.

The injured in the attack were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to initial investigation, the bomb blast was planted on a footpath.

Karachi, the country's financial capital, is currently undergoing a targeted operation against terrorists, target killers and other criminals elements and mafias active in the city.

Karachi situation discussed in Rangers meeting

A high-level meeting of the Rangers officials was held in Karachi today, during which a briefing on possible militant attacks was given by the Rangers’ Intelligence personnel.

Director General of the Sindh Rangers Maj-Gen Rizwan Akhtar headed the session which was also attended by DIG Special branch and DIG of the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

During the meeting, the intelligence officials gave a briefing regarding possible acts of terrorism in the city.

Aerial footages of various areas were also surveyed in the session.

The meeting moreover discussed the achievements of the ongoing Karachi operation.

The more you delay things, the more organized the criminals and terrorists will become. And more time you will give to foreign agencies to help them. If you know lots of agencies are working in Pakistan, first either throw them out of Pakistan or put them behind bars. Airports, Sea Ports, and all landroutes should be strictly monitored by some other force, other than the police and the current officials as they are not trustworthy at all. And when you catch one terrorist, he alone is sufficient to lead you to the whole trail behind him. If the question is about the survival of Pakistan, why to waste even a single second? The operation should start instantly.

The country has come to a point where its citizens are just pleading...Oh for god sake wake up and do something. don't just wave your hands in the air that you are in trouble.pleading can be taken as a test, for the forms of action, notably ignore the fundamental difference between duties imposed by law and duties created by the will of the parties.folks..We need to have a purpose in this life. I'm pleading with you, I'm begging with you to do the right thing. And do it not for the sake of how it will impact your own lives, but only for the sake of doing the right thing.

The problem is that our tolerance for such violence is increasing day by day. If the whole city and country does not stand up against even a single killing or injury, it's just a matter of time that such violence will not stay contained to parts of Karachi - it will spread to other peaceful areas of Pakistan too. Today, the injured or deceased may not impact us directly, but let's pause for a moment to think about the families who have lost their loved ones. Their lives will never be the same. When these LEAs cannot protect their own backyard, how do we expect them to protect the poor people...? what sort of checks were in place ? how could someone get close to plant explosives on the footpath near the HQ building...a million dollar question ? someone right under the nose walks, approaches the HQ & plant bombs on the footpath...what do one call such failures ? was there no check post or sand bags filled bunker with armed Rangers....how could they not notice ? & there are many questions for such a failure......

@ishrat salim : Atleast they are fighting to protect their backyard and ours too. Thats a good sign isn't it? We, as a nation, are a nation of cowards, who only get courage the lives of all of us are at stake, like during wars, natural disasters etc., otherwise 5, 10, 15, 20 lives on daily basis don't bother us at all. We are like a frog which when put in boiling water it would jump out, but if you put it within cold water and place it on a stove, it will gradually boil to death without noticing the gradual increase in temperature. It's about time we should stand up and support the people who are actually making an effort to protect us, or we should at least refrain from discouraging them.
