Pakistan's former high commissioner of to the United Kingdom, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, has said that his granting of permission to a National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) team from the Pakistan High commission, sent to the residence of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain in London to retrieve data for the issuance of National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), was not in violation of any rules.

"I have been sending fax messages to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Islamabad on the matter but it had yet to respond positively" Pakistan's former high commissioner to the UK told Dawn on phone from London.

He said the MQM chief had paid all the fees involved in the process and receipt are available with the high commission for record purposes.

Hasan added that Hussain's NICOP should have been issued as it was required for the issuance of a passport.

"In UK Nadra team can visit anybody who is not well, old or not in a position to visit the High Commission for the data submission", he commented.

Wajid Shamsul Hasan had announced in April he was stepping down from the post of Pakistan's High Commissioner to the UK, after 'six eventful years' in London.
