KARACHI: Internationally renowned social worker and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi on Saturday rejected reports of his illness as baseless and said that the motive behind propagation of such false claims was to disrupt his welfare activities, DawnNews reported.

A member of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) while talking to Dawn.com said that Edhi was not admitted in hospital and was doing fine, adding that a press release in this regard would be issued today.

Dr Edhi said that "conspirators were constantly hatching plans" against him and also spreading reports of him being admitted to a hospital which were patently false.

Dr Edhi is currently occupied with his philanthropic work in his head office.

He requested the public to not to pay heed to such unfounded claims adding that forwarding such claims was unethical.

Rumours spread like wildfire on both traditional and social media over the last few days that the 86-year-old philanthropist was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit, and later passed away. While Edhi is known to visit the hospital for routine check-ups and dialysis, such speculation has haunted him on multiple occasions now.

Abdul Sattar Edhi, runs the country's largest charity, which operates hundreds of ambulances and shelters for women, children and the needy. Edhi has won many international accolades for his charity work.
