Ijaz, Shoaib Mohammad among new Pakistan selectors

ISLAMABAD: Former fielding coaches Ijaz Ahmed and Shoaib Mohammad are among the six members of Pakistan cricket's new selection committee.

Ex-test wicketkeeper Salim Yousuf, former opening batsman Wajahatullah Wasti and Mohammad Akram are the other members.

Moin Khan was appointed as chief selector last week.

Khan, Mohammad and Akram were coaches of the Pakistan teams that were beaten in the Asia Cup final last month, and didn't advance from the group stage at the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

The PCB says in a statement on Thursday that Akram will be the head coach at the National Cricket Academy and will no longer be the bowling coach of the national team.

The board has advertised several coaching jobs, including head coach and fielding coach for the national team.

Same cooks & same food, no better taste expected. After loosing the same old probably a thousand times repeated statement like "we are sorry", "Luck did not favour us", "The pitch did no turn well", etc, etc along with the most famous assertion "we will from our loss" Baba Badi Meharbani Hogi Sethi Sahib kuch legends of cricket ko bhi hire kero. Except fpr Ejaz Ahmed & Shoaib Mohammed others selected were just players of the past.

There's no doubt that Saleem Yousuf and Moin Khan were among the best players, but as the selectors, i have my doubts. Only the seasoned and the top batsman can judge who will be selected on merit basis. I think Waqar Younus, Inzamam, and also Wasim Akram qualify to be the best selectors.

This selection committee is selected by Indians. All average and failures have been given a job. Should start taking interest in Gillee Dandaa and Kabbadee.

These all have their vested interests. Most of these are traditionists who will go with the older tried horses. Shoaib will want to promote karachi players regardless of ability and Ijaz wouldn't mind players origin but only the backing they come with. Saleem Yousef and Wasti will only work as scouts.

@Youth Yes, I guess nothing is new or pragmatic elements found in this committee. Rather Pakistan should form a clean and democratic selection committee comprising a 4 reputed ex cricketers from all provinces of Pakistan. They may select, being a member of the selection committee, the chief selector of that committee. Through this process all sorts of sympathy(regionalism) or apathy (hostility beyond the own region) may be avoided.

Why no Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudry Nisar, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Chaudry Shujat and Asfandyar Wali as the Selection Committee members and Asif Zardari as their Chairman?

Are you kidding me????? Wajahat Wasti was an unaccomplished player and not to mention laziest of all. For selection committee I was looking forward to Rashid Lateef but he didn't join because of political issues. But he was right/best candidate to head selection. Waqar/Waseem should be offered a coaching job alongside a batting coach, M Akram is an accessory to ruin Team Green. I don't know what method Sehti is implementing but all I see is darkness.

How come its 6 selectors ? Any other country has this ? I heard only 3 selectors, so that there is always a majority vote, and all 3 have an equal right.

Why Najam Sethi has not included in the management team of such players like Wasim Akram, Inzimam ul Haq, Mohammed Yousuf, Shoaib Akhtar, Sarfaraz Nawaz etc.

Is the selection committee able to do the selection without any pressure political or any other pressure. I think Waqar, Wasim and Inzamam are better choices then the old guards. We have seen so many new talents wasted, as they have not been given proper chances.

Buch of losers are at the helm of Pakistan cricket. Wajahatullah Wasti was never heard of. Ijaz Ahmed did not know how to hold a cricket bat. Pakistan cricket does not have a future.

@Shahid - And you wouldn't like to have Karachi players in the national team, why? Can you advise how many of the Karachi players are consistently making the national team and why not? Please stop this propaganda against Karachi and its players. Players like Fawad Alam, Sarfraz are still better choice than some of the other players that are currently playing in the team.

Najam sahab ..... I am shocked to see that you have included players in the selection committee who were banned for life for betting and corruption such as Salim Malik and Ijaz Ahmed.... How are we going to clean our cricket when we keep these corrupt people still involved in the organisation..... Pls comment....

Sethi could not find six honest people from all the great players we had.... He choose people like Salim Malik and Ijaz Ahmed who were banned for betting and brought disrespect to Pakistan as selectors.......

I think Najam sethi should have done a better job getting the selectors and chief selectors. All these selectors were mere ordinary players which struggled to keep their spot in the side. They were the examples of nepotism being always there in PCB. I think we should let talent come to the forefront instead of politics. Wasti, shoab mohammad and ijaz all were below par players who have a very few nice memories associated to them . PCB , please don't harm cricket more than that has already been done by Match fixing and corruption.
