ISLAMABAD: The electronic-office replication system is being introduced in the prime minister’s office, six federal ministries and the National Assembly secretariat during next few weeks, with six more ministries to be connected in next fiscal year, Minister of State for IT Anusha Rehman Khan said on Tuesday.

Ms Rehman held a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and discussed latest plans of the ministry of information technology for introducing e-office system in different ministries.

The e-filing will connect different federal ministries and divisions with each other through an intranet.

She said an agreement had already been signed between the PTCL and the Electronic Government Directorate (EGD) for providing data hosting facilities by former to implement the project.

Mr Dar was informed that a team had been deputed for ministries of finance, planning, scientific and technological research division and the ministry of information technology to roll out e-office application, while training to officers and supporting staff was already being provided.

She said the ministry will implement e-office application phase-wise. Configuration of network had also been initiated with the support of the National Telecommunication Corporation.

Mr Dar said the project will make Pakistan stand in the line of developed countries with an assurance to deliver cost-effective service to its people. He assured the IT ministry that the hardware requirements of concerned ministries would be accommodated in next fiscal year.

“With the implementation of the programme, our objectives of efficient, transparent and good governance will be achieved in an effective manner,” Dar remarked.

The e-office application was developed and implemented at the IT ministry under a pilot Public Sector Development Project in 2004.
