Policemen among five killed in militant attack near Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Five people including four policemen, among them an ASI, were killed as unidentified militants attacked a police convoy on Kohat Road near Zangali Checkpost wounding four policemen also some 20 kilometers from Peshawar on Monday.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Badbher police station, Garanullah Khan told Dawn.com that the militants attacked two policemen near Zangli checkpost injuring them seriously.

He said the wounded policemen were being evacuated when the militants attacked the rescue party killing five including an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), three constables and a driver of the ambulance which was evacuating the injured.

Khan said two more constables injured in the ambush, adding that the wounded policemen have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment.

No militant group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, which follows a recent surge in the Pakistani Taliban violence after its decision to not extend the ceasefire with the Pakistani government.

Here we go again....I would wonder what the talks committee will say now. BTW army is going to respond back when attacked. What is the strategy for rest of the law enforcement agencies like the police force. Words like Jail breaks or police encounters of "accused militants" sound good to me.

Trust me it's not done by TTP! We will reconfirm this in next round of peace talks with the Talibans and ask them to investigate these killings. Peace talks needs more blood to be successful.

Well to us, civilians, it is appalling to the hilt to read about these atrocities being committed with unprecedented regularity. We see these happening daily. We try to come up, to the best of our limited abilities, plausible explanations for these incessant attacks. But to other powerful institutions of the state, this is merely "undesirable" in the greater scheme of things. Otherwise, you'd think they would have done something about it. As the years pass by the yearly death toll increases. So the powers that be, are either not that powerful after all or more likely have other plans. Words more hollow than the ones delivered by our politicians and armed forces have never been spoken. I do not think, for one second, my comment will make it to the boards but oh well, for what it's worth, I might as well try.

It boggles my mind trying to make sense - that in our own country, we are continuing to be held hostage. That we are expected to live in fear and these terrorists can literally have an "open season" on any of us, where and when they please! If we can hold meetings with them, shouldn't that tell us their whereabouts? And if so, instead of inviting them to a meeting, can we not just go there with our forces and arrest them? Can we not hunt down all the terrorists and I am sure the local population will be more than happy to assist and either kill them or ship them back from wherever they have come from? Wouldn't it make more sense for us to be on the offense - rather than always be on the defense? Why are these thoughts and questions not going through the minds of our leaders, whose job is to secure our country against any enemies - domestic and foreign? I am sure it is not a lost cause and Pakistan can still be saved.

How the outlaws can claim responsibility when they are on negotiating table with the Government. Do not we see, in the wake of not extending the ceasefire date further, these incidents of killing, bombing started to took place on daily basis. The solution lies on taking strict action against them by our Government and Army. Lekin Hukumat maslahet ka shikar hai aur yar log Army k peechey parre hooya hain.
