LARKANA: Pakistan Peoples Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) on Sunday organised rallies and demonstrations in several towns against the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO).

A large number of PPP-SB activists and supporters took out a procession from Al-Murtaza House raising slogans against the ordinance and demanding its repeal.

Carrying banners and placards, the protesters led by Mukhtiar Bhutto and Imtiaz Gaad marched through the streets of Larkana and assembled outside Jinnahbagh gate, where they staged a sit-in.

PPP-SB leaders speaking to them described the PPO as a tool to victimise political opponents, and warned that application of the law was boud to aggravate the issue of ‘enforced disappearances’ and killings on political grounds.

In Hyderabad, the party’s district leadership led a similar protest. Speaking to the participants, Irshad Khaskheli, Asghar Band and others said that promulgation of such a law would tantamount to declaring martial law in the country.
