ISLAMABAD: The chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Justice Mohammad Anwar Khan Kasi, on Thursday, ordered the interior ministry to remove the names of the sons of main suspect of the Employees’ Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) scam, from the exit control list (ECL).

Following the suo moto notice, taken by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, over the alleged embezzlement in the affairs of EOBI, last year, the name of the main suspect of the scam was placed on the ECL. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has also placed the names of his sons on the ECL.

Challenging the actions of the FIA, the counsel of the main suspect’s sons moved a petition in IHC.

He said that the FIA was problem the allegations against the father of the petitioners, but had placed the names of his sons on ECL without any reason.

He further said that the sons could not be held responsible for any wrongdoings of their father.

According to him, both the sons had received admissions in foreign universities, but could not attend their classes due to the travel ban.

The counsel pointed out that acquiring foreign education is one of the fundamental rights of the citizens, which cannot be curtailed based on the allegations against the petitioners’ father.
