RAWALPINDI: An army officer reportedly opened fire into the air after a traffic warden stopped a mini-truck, in which he was travelling, from parking on the Pirwadhai Mor flyover on Thursday night. Panic gripped the area, but no one was injured in the incident.
Reinforcement of the police force helped the warden to take the truck driver along with the army officer to the Naseerabad police station where the warden, Abid Hussain, lodged a complaint against the army officer.
The incident occurred when the mini-truck carrying some armymen from Bannu reached the flyover on Peshawar Road and stopped there.
As the traffic warden on duty told the truck driver, Mohammad Jameel, that parking was not allowed on the flyover, an exchange of hot words began between them.
Moments later, a man in civvies disembarked from the truck and introduced himself as Major Adnan. Later, he pulled out a pistol and fired gunshots, the warden alleged.
When city traffic officer Shoaib Khurram Janbaz was contacted, he confirmed the incident and said SP Potohar Haroon Joyia had been asked to investigate into the complaint lodged by the traffic warden.
Mr Janbaz said the traffic warden had alleged that the army officer fired gunshots but the latter dismissed his claim. “The facts would be known after the investigation is completed,” the CTO said.
