Five killed, 15 injured as bus overturns in central Punjab

TOBA TEK SINGH: At least five people were killed and 15 other sustained injuries when a passenger bus overturned on a main thoroughfare in Kamalia district of central Punjab, officials said Thursday.

Police and rescue officials said the passenger bus went out of driver’s control and overturned on the sharp turn near Fatyana Chowk area of Kamalia district, about 240 kilometres southwest of Lahore.

Five people died on the spot while 15 passengers were injured in the mishap, officials said.

Some of the injured passengers were said to be in critical condition.

Rescue teams arrived at the scene and shifted the wounded to the Kamalia District Headquarter hospital.

Police claimed the accident occurred because of over-speeding and reckless driving.
