Iran dismisses commanders over abduction of border guards

TEHRAN: Iran's state TV said the military has dismissed several commanders from service and others face court proceedings for alleged negligence after last month's abduction of five Iranian border guards by Pakistan-based militants.

The Monday report on the state TV website quoted border guard commander Hossein Zolfaghari as saying that all five captive border guards are still unharmed.

The five were abducted in Iran's Sistan-Baluchistan province on Feb 6 and reportedly taken to Pakistan.

Iran has said it sent officials to Pakistan to coordinate their release.

Tweets in the name of the Jaish al-Adl, said to be a Sunni militant group, have claimed credit for the kidnapping and posted pictures that purport to show the captives. Recent Tweets have threatened to kill the five.

And no head rolled when 23 of our soldiers were kidnapped in 2010 and eventually killed last month feb 14 as claimed by TTP.....why ? No wonder Iran could stand looking eye to eye with the Americans and we just follow what the Americans order us to do....unless someone like Khomeini emerges from within us our country cannot stand shoulder to shoulder with other nations in the world.....

@Ishrat salim: I read comments implying that Pakistan leaders always follow American orders but nobody ever provides specifics. If your govt always follows American orders then why was OBL found within spitting distance of the PMA? Why haven't you kicked out the Haqqani? Why did you blockade NATO supplies and why do they spout anti American propaganda at every opportunity. Anti American blather is popular in Pakistan - but it's often emotional and without logic.

The very idea of a war with Iran is WRONG at so many levels. Iran and Turkey has been a strong Pakistan friend prior to Zia and Saudi Influence on our politics with madarsa culture has stagnated Pakistan. It is sad to See Nawaz govt. doing a payback for Saudi money
