KARACHI: Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired a high-level meeting, on Tuesday to identify the reasons of delay in the distribution of aid to Thar, asked Sindh Chief Secretary, Chaudhry Mohammad Aijaz, to submit a report within three days affixing responsibility on institutions and individuals for the situation in Thar, DawnNews reported.

Meanwhile, Syed Qaim Ali Shah expressed his extreme disappointment over the negligence of the relevant authorities.

Chief minster directed the Chief Secretary to conduct a proper inquiry and bring facts to the public.

Qaim said the assistance for the drought-hit areas of Thar had begun last year in November, adding that provision of 60,000 wheat bags for the drought-hit people had been ordered on December 13.

Moreover, on every summary of relief department they were directed to provide the people with aid urgently.

He further said that the Sindh government had been serving the people of Thar for the past five years without any discrimination and the government’s support initiatives were still in progress adding that the situation in the region would soon return to normal.

Most areas of Sindh’s Tharparkar district are facing a famine-like situation and at least 32 malnourished children are reported to have died. About 175,000 families are reported to have been affected and some of them have been forced to leave their homes and move to barrage areas.
