ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday gave the federal government until March 14 to present Tasif Ali, DawnNews reported.

A two-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, heard the case relating to the disappearance of Tasif, believed to be a Hizbul Mujahideen activist who went missing on Nov 23, 2012.

During the hearing, Additional Attorney General Shah Khawar requested additional time to contact the relevant authorities.

Khawar said the accused was present in the ‘operational’ area. Responding to which, Justice Nasir asked Khawar to name the commanding officer, adding that the court would subsequently summon him.

He moreover questioned as to what investigation had the government carried out so far.

Advocate Khawar said the government would soon meet with defence ministry officials in this regard.

The court subsequently gave time until March 14 for the production of Tasif and adjourned the hearing of the case to the said date.

The Supreme Court bench had taken up the case on the application of Abida Malik, wife of Tasif Ali alias Danish. Her application had accused a serving Military Intelligence officer, Maj Ali Ahsan, earlier known as Maj Haider, for allegedly being behind the enforced disappearance of her husband whose immediate production before the court has been sought.

Tasif Ali is believed to be a Hizbul Mujahideen activist who went missing on Nov 23 last year, and was allegedly picked up by Maj Ahsan. His last phone conversation was with Maj Ahsan who was then a captain posted at the MI-918, Mangla Cantonment.
