RAWALPINDI: A two-member polio vaccination team was tortured by occupants of a house in Kalar Syedan when they asked them to get their children vaccinated on Thursday, police said.

Mohammad Javaid Irshad, the incharge of polio vaccination team, complained to the police that he along with lady health visitor (LHV) Qamarun Nisa was visiting mohallah Imambargah to administer polio drops to children.

When they rang the door bell of a house, a girl opened the door of the house. Hardly had the polio team asked the girl to get the children vaccinated, one young man identified as Bilal Sheikh came out and started arguing with the team members.

While the young man was arguing with polio team, he quarreled, abused and also slapped the polio team member and refused to get the children vaccinated.

Later, the polio team left the scene and lodged a complaint with the police that led to registration of a case against the inmates of the house on the charges of

attacking the polio team and obstructing them from performing their official duty.
