KARACHI: Five people were injured in two successive bomb blasts near Orangi Town's Mominabad police station on Saturday, DawnNews reported.

According to police sources, the first attack was by a hand grenade hurled at a street vendor near the police station while the second explosion which occurred within a few minutes was by a bomb planted at a taxi-stand.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the location of the blasts. Sources said five people, including a policeman, were injured in the explosions and four vehicles had also been damaged.

The injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Police sources said nuts, bolts and ball bearings were also found from the sites of the explosions, adding that the bomb seemed to be planted and of low intensity.

Today’s incident came a day after a senior officer of the Rangers was attacked by a suicide bomber in the city’s Qayumabad area. The Rangers sector commander was going from the Defence Housing Authority to his office in the Nursery area when the suicide bomber aged about 20 years blew himself up in front of the vehicle.

A day prior to the Qayumabad attack, 13 police commandos were killed in a blast on Thursday near their training centre on the outskirts of Karachi. Thursday's attack was claimed by the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with which the government is currently engaged in peace talks.
