KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday said their domestic Anti-Corruption Unit was monitoring reports of alleged match-fixing in the ongoing Faysal Bank T20 tournament being played in Rawalpindi

Reports of match-fixing surfaced today after former Test batsman Basit Ali, who was also part of a television commentary team for the tournament, reportedly alleged that the Sialkot Stallions-Karachi Dolphins game, which Karach won, was fixed. Basit was removed from the commentary panel after protests from the Sialkot camp before their quarter-final game against Islamabad Leopards.

“I have a lot to say but I cannot due to the PCB’s orders,” Sialkot skipper Shoaib Malik said of the development. He added that the allegations had affected his team’s focus and led to their loss in the quarter-final.

Responding to the reports the PCB said in a statement that it was looking into the allegation and that each domestic match was monitored.

“This event is no exception and every single match is being monitored. PCB will not comment further on this issue,” the brief statement concluded.

The fixing allegations come days after Islamabad Regional Cricket Association president Shakil Sheikh, who is also a member of a management committee running the affairs of the PCB, accused Basit of being a “bookie”.
