Pakistani feature film Zinda Bhaag won the Special Jury Award at the closing ceremony of the Jaipur International Film Festival 2014, Farjad Nabi, co-director of the movie, informed Dawn on Saturday.
Many writers and directors from Bollywood and around the world attended the festival.
Zinda Bhaag also held the honour of being selected as the ‘opening night film’ which kick-started the five-day long festival.
The popularity of the film among the Jaipur audiences could be ascertained by the fact that even before its name was announced for the award, the members of the audience were heard cheering and shouting out its name.
Turkish film The Butterfly’s Dream by Yilmaz Erdogan also won an award and actor-director Amol Palekar was also awarded at the festival.
An exhibition of Iranian miniature paintings and calligraphy will open at Zahoorul Akhlaq Gallery of the National College of Arts on Monday (tomorrow). The exhibition will be accompanied by an Iranian film festival.
The exhibition and film festival will be held till Feb 14. A film will be screened everyday during the festival from 3pm to 5pm.
The Ejaz Art Gallery on MM Alam Road will open an exhibition of artworks, titled ‘Icons of Pakistan’, at the gallery on Feb 13th.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by Tehmina Durrani, wife of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The exhibition will open at 5pm and artworks will remain on display till March 1.
The Lahore Zoo is planning to hold an exhibition of paintings featuring wildlife in captive breeding. The zoo will contact students of different art institutions for the exhibition-cum-contest.
Lahore Zoo Director Naeem Bhatti told this scribe that the basic objective of the exhibition was to promote awareness on wildlife, especially wildlife in captive breeding. The participating students would be given certificates and shields, he added.
The Punjab Council of the Arts is preparing to hold a provincial drama festival in March. Different theatre groups from Lahore and other cities of Punjab will participate in the festival.
The festival will be held at Open Air Theatre Bagh-i-Jinnah. The divisional arts councils, working under the Punjab Council of the Arts, have started working on the project.
Painter Jimmy Engineer, through an email sent to this scribe from abroad, has said that he has, so far, organised 160 awareness, fun and food programmes for special children within the country and abroad.
He said that he was trying to create awareness on special children in the society and that they needed to be given special attention.
He pointedly stated that under this programme, the special children’s visit to posh hotels, restaurants and clubs were arranged.
