QUETTA: A convoy of 100 Bugti tribesmen returned to Dera Bugti on Saturday night after being displaced from their homes about nine years ago.

Shahzain Bugti led the convoy. His mother and other family members accompanied him.

After registering the tribesmen, security forces allowed them to enter Dera Bugti district.

More convoys of Bugti tribesmen will enter Sui and Dera Bugti on a daily basis after registering themselves with the authorities.

Hundreds of people belonging to different clans of the Bugti tribe welcomed the convoy.

But some Bugti tribe elders led a protest demonstration in Sui, saying that the return of the Bugti

family and other people would worsen the law and order situation in Dera Bugti district.

The Bugti tribesmen earlier tried to move to Sui from Kashmore about two weeks ago, but the local administration and security officials did not allow them to enter the area.

Then Mr Shahzain moved the Balochistan High Court which allowed the tribesmen to return to Dera Bugti after getting registered themselves with the authorities.

Thousands of Bugti tribesmen left Dera Bugti for Quetta, Karachi, Multan, Nawabshah and other areas of the country after the assassination of Baloch Nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti in August 2006.
