ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the medical board of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) is underway to decide whether to discharge former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf who was admitted there for suffering heart problems on his way to a special court for treason charges earlier on Jan 2, DawnNews reported.

Security was beefed up during the meeting of the AFIC’s medical board. A huge contingent of police and Rangers personnel reached the hospital.

It is speculated that Musharraf will be discharged within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, security has also been tightened at Musharraf’s Chak Shehzad farmhouse. Moreover, police patrolling has also increased in the neighbourhood.

Doctors said Musharraf’s condition has improved from before and that he had undergone physiotherapy. His knee and back pain has also subsided.

Musharraf had been rushed to the AFIC on Jan 2 after he complained of heart problems on way to the special court for treason charges. Aside from the treason allegations, the former army strongman also faces trial over the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, the death of Baloch nationalist leader Akber Bugti, a deadly raid on a radical mosque and the detention of judges.
