KATMANDU: Two buses have crashed into rivers in western Nepal in separate accidents that have killed eight Nepalese people and six Indian tourists.

Administrator Yagyaraj Bohara says one bus skidded off a road and fell into a river early Wednesday at Baskanda, a village nearly 700 kilometers northwest of Katmandu.

He said eight Nepalese died and 27 were injured.

Police officer Chakraraj Joshi said six tourists from the eastern Indian city of Kolkata died when their bus plunged into a river in Tanahu district Wednesday.

Police are investigating the causes of the accidents.

Most crashes in the Himalayan nation are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.
