QUETTA: A man was killed and 21 other people were injured when a bomb exploded in the Pashtoonabad area of the city on Thursday evening.

The bomb planted near an ice-crime parlour in Mehta Chowk in the eastern part of the city went off during rush hours.

The injured, seven children among them, were taken to the civil hospital by police and Frontier Corps personnel.

The man who died on the spot had suffered multiple wounds having been hit by splinters, hospital sources said. The deceased had not been identified till late in the night.

“We received 21 injured and the condition of four of them is serious,” a doctor said. The seriously injured were shifted by relatives to the CMH.

Besides the ice-cream outlet, the blast damaged several adjoining shops and buildings.

According to police, the blast was caused by a locally-made bomb.

“About one and half kgs of explosives was used in the bomb,” a police officer said.

There was no immediate claim to responsibility for the blast.
