KARACHI, Dec 7: Kaleemullah salvaged a point for two-time defending champions Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) with a penalty deep into stoppage time in their 1-1 draw with Wapda in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) on Saturday.

Kaleem struck in the fourth minute of injury-time after Mohammad Adnan had given Wapda lead in the 82nd minute at the Railways Stadium in Lahore.

The draw for stuttering KRL meant they moved to 20 points from 12 matches, 16 behind league leaders Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and second-placed Muslim FC.

Wapda, meanwhile, reclaimed third place on goal difference as they moved to 33 points from 18 games.

In the meantime, Pakistan Railways moved a step closer to a place in the PPFL next season when they won Group ‘E’ of the Departmental Leg of the second-tier Pakistan Football Federation League (PFFL) with a 1-0 victory over Ashraf Sugar Mills (ASM).

Adnan Shahzad’s strike ensured Railways won their group to move into the five-team mini-league which will decide which team is promoted from the Departmental Leg of the PFFL.

Railways will vie with the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Karachi United, Pakistan Police and the Higher Education in the mini-league which kicks off on Dec 13. The winners will then play the Club Leg winners to decide PFFL champions.—Sports Reporter
