LAHORE, Dec 2: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the last league match 3-0 to win the 11th West Asia Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Monday.
In a tough match during which Sri Lanka gave significant resistance to Pakistan, Abu Bakr (two) and Adnan Butt (one) scored the runs for the host team.
Earlier, Afghanistan earned the third position as they overpowered Nepal 3-2.
Tahir Ali, Naqeebullah and Asim each scored one run for Afghanistan, while Rajesh Pariyar and Rajesh Basnet registered runs for Nepal.
Umair Imdad Bhatti of Pakistan was declared best batsman of the tournament and his team-mate Mohammad Usman best pitcher.
Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB) president Shaukat Javed distributed the prizes among winners and runners-up.
Meanwhile, according to PFB secretary Khawar Shah, Pakistan after winning the West Asia Cup title had also qualified for the Asia Cup to be staged next year.
Moreover, he said, Pakistan had also qualified for next year’s Asian Games baseball event to be held in Incheon, South Korea.
