ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation for combined income group rose by 0.95 per cent for the week ended on Nov 21 compared to the preceding week, according to data issued by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Friday.

The weekly inflation measured through the sensitive price index (SPI) rebounded, witnessing highest increase for the past 10 consecutive weeks.

The increase is mainly fuelled by surge in price of electricity, petroleum products, and depreciation of the rupee.

Since May 9, the SPI has been on the rise because of increase in prices of perishable and non-perishable products, such as vegetable, pulses, edible oil, etc.

SPI monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of 17 cities and 53 markets.

The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week under review.

The SPI increased by 1.23pc for the lowest income group (earning up to Rs8,000) and by 0.79pc for the top income group (earning Rs35,000 and above), over the previous week.

However, the SPI rose by 15.51pc for the combined group in the week under review compared with the corresponding week of last year.

The food items whose prices increased substantially were potatoes (21.67pc), eggs (8.33pc), wheat (3.37pc), moong pulse washed (3.23pc), masoor pulse washed (3.08pc), garlic (2.34pc), tea prepared (1.45pc), wheat flour (1.44pc), gram pulse washed (1.04pc), mash pulse washed (0.94pc), onions (0.69pc), chicken live (0.66pc), milk fresh (0.64pc), curd (0.6pc), sugar (0.37pc), red chilli powder (0.37pc), cooked dal plate (0.33pc), beef (0.21pc), rice basmati broken (0.20pc), vegetable ghee (0.18pc), cooked beef plate (0.18pc) and bananas (0.13pc).

The non-food items whose prices increased were LPG 11kg cylinder (0.22pc), firewood (0.42pc), georgette (0.43pc), washing soap (1.86), and energy saver (0.37pc).

However, the prices of chicken, tomatoes, gur and mustard oil declined during the period under review.
