LAHORE, Nov 4: Two teenaged girls were killed for honour in different incidents on Monday. A 16-year-old girl was killed for honour by her stepfather in Bhogiwal locality of Shalimar.

Police said the suspect initially escaped after shooting but was captured later. Preliminary police investigations showed that victim Zainab was daughter of Shahida Bibi of Deputy Yaqoob Colony.

Shahida married Muhammad Asghar and had three children. After Asghar’s death, Shahida contracted second marriage with Mir Afzal, Asghar’s brother. The couple has four children.

On Monday, Zainab left home early morning without informing her family and returned after a few hours to see the wrath of her stepfather who was curious to listen to the purpose of her outside visit. The girl failed to satisfy her father.

Quoting a family member, police said the suspect developed suspicion that his daughter got acquaintance with a man of locality.

City Raiwind police said 18-year-old Sajida was gunned down by her brother Sabir alias Sabi for honour in Asal Kundal locality.

Police said the girl left home around 15 days ago without informing her family and returned a day before the incident.

Her brother developed suspicion over her character and got annoyed. The suspect shot at his sister and fled.

SUCCUMBS: A woman in her 40s succumbed to her burns at a hospital on Monday a day after she set herself on fire owing to her husband’s attitude in Ittehad Colony of Ghaziabad on Monday.

Police said Muhammad Ameen of Husainpura used to beat up his wife Shamim Akhtar of Ittehad Colony over domestic issues. The woman had four daughters.

After she was beaten up by Ameen, the woman went to her mother’s home and set herself ablaze by sprinkling kerosene oil.

In her last statement to police, the victim stated that her husband was an addict and jobless who used to beat her and suspect her character.

ACCIDENT: A 50-year-old cyclist was knocked down and killed by a speeding van on Multan Road on Monday.

Police said Jamil Ahmad, who worked in a factory and was a resident of Adda Plot, died instantly.
